Zambia Considering Social Media Tax

Zambians are protesting the implementation of a new social media tax of 30 Ngwe ($0.1) on internet calls over platforms like WhatsApp, Skype and Viber. The move is an attempt to protect the traditional service providers. In a tweet Information Minister Dora Siliya on Monday said the cabinet had approved an executive order that would see the introduction of a 30 ngwee (0.3 kwacha; $0.03) daily tariff charged on online phone calls.
