Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has refuted claims that there will be widespread load shedding.
The statement was issued following a detailed load shedding schedule for Harare region that made its way onto various social media platforms.
The power utility has advised its valued customers that it has not yet publicised any load shedding schedule and customers should dismiss those that are circulating on social media.
ZETDC is in the process of finalising the load shedding schedules which will be published in the mainstream media as soon as they are ready, so as to enable consumers to plan in line with the available power supply situation.
The power utility urges consumers to disregard the misleading social media messages, and apologises for the inconvenience caused.
Part of the press statement released read:
” The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) would like to advise its valued customers that it has not yet publicised any load shedding schedule and customers should dismiss those that are circulating on social media “
The load shedding is said to affect Harare region and the schedule circulating on social media especially WhatsApp contains blackout periods and area codes for people to know when their areas will be affected.
Interestingly, when this schedule started doing rounds most areas in Harare experienced serious power outages that exceeded more than 8 hours leading to the belief that the circulation was legit. In some areas the period that the electricity is being cut off is tallying with what is on the circulating schedule.
However,ZETDC did not bother to explain the cause of power outages that have affected many areas in Harare since Monday. Practically load shedding is already in full even though they have not released a schedule.
In some areas the electricity is being randomly switched on and off after every 5 or 10 minutes and this might have devastating effects on people”s appliances.
Residents of Harare must brace themselves for serious load shedding as according to the statement issued,a proper load shedding schedule is still being finalized.
