The government of Zimbabwe is set to commemorate Girls In ICT next week on the 15th of May 2019, at Gokomere High School in Masvingo.
International Girls in ICT is acknowledged in 170 countries that are also International Telecommunications Union (ITU) member states, and the aim is to help bridge the digital gender divide and spark interest in young girls and women to join the ICT sector.
This year’s theme is “Empower the girl child, Empower the world!”
Just like other ITU member states Zimbabwe will celebrate the enormous potential for leveraging ICT to drive economic growth and development, and accelerate progress towards all 17 Sustainable Development Goals outlined by the United Nations.
The commemorations are held on rotational basis nationwide with the initial initiative being held in Matabeleland in 2012, and this year it will be in Masvingo.
The provinces are decided by the ministry of ICT Postal and Courier Services, the national regulator Potraz and sector players in the telecommunication industry.
The world over celebrate the International Girls in ICT Day each year on the fourth Thursday of April.
