The ZICT (Zimbabwe Information & Communications Technologies) division of ZIE (Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers) is currently running a stream of activities for Girls in ICT Zimbabwe, under the theme: “Empower the girl child, Empower the world!”.
The activities are part of ZICT’s endeavor to celebrate and encourage the girl child at the same time recognising the International Girls in ICT day and the Innovation Week.
International Girls in ICT Day, aims to encourage and empower girls and young women to consider studies and careers in the growing field of ICTs, enabling both girls and technology companies to reap the benefits of greater female participation in the ICT sector.
International Girls in ICT Day will be officially celebrated on the 25 April 2019, and it is an initiative backed by all ITU Member States in ITU Plenipotentiary Resolution 70 (Rev. Dubai, 2018), with an aim to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider careers in the growing field of ICTs, enabling both girls and technology companies to reap the benefits of greater female participation in the sector.
In line with these commemorations, ZICT is currently running a short survey to ascertain how many women are in the ICT space in various organisations.
The results of the survey will help shape the format and structure of “A Girls in ICT Fund” being set up, beginning this year.
