Guruve Assured more Containerised Village Information Centres

Potraz has deployed 3 out of 24 Containerised Village Information Centres (CVIC’s) as part of the pilot project of 24. This came to light during the launch of the Guruve Community information centre in Mashonaland Central.

The CVIC’s aim to ensure easy access of ICT in marginalised areas. Director General of Potraz Mr Machengete assured the people that work is still in progress in building up more CVICs.

“Such centres have since been deployed at Nyachuru, Madziwa and St Alberts Business Centres in the first phase of the project and more are coming.” Said Dr Machengete.

Most post offices are mainly in town and none are in remote areas, thus depending on demand Potraz is using containers as the CICs . The same can be used as post offices.

The initiative is also aimed at bridging the digital divide and ensuring that the population is geared up for the fourth industrial revolution where ICT is proving to be of dominance.

All the centers have been been established through the Universal Services Fund which is administered by POTRAZ.
