The ICT Parliamentary Portfolio Committee toured two TelOne Sites starting with the Data Exchange site in Harare and Mazowe Earth Satellite Station in Mazowe.
As part of the ministry’s recommendation pronounced by Hon Kazembe Kazembe during the Potraz familiarization tour that was held in Kadoma a fortnight ago, TelOne has responded by inviting the ICT Parliamentary Portifolio to make them have a fair understanding of the entity.
TelOne Managing Director Mrs Chipo Mtasa said broadband revenue continues to grow and has increased by 44% while voice had decreased by 14 %.
“TelOne envisions to enhance the nation into a digitally enabled society by 2023 and to provide connectivity and digital solutions not only in telecommunications but digital as well.” She said.
Mrs Mutasa lamented on benefits of adopting technology in the telecoms sector, customer experience enhancement, human capital Development and partial privatisation.
ICT Parliamentary Portfolio Committee chairperson Honorable Charlton Hwende exclusively revealed to TechnoMag that they will present a report to the minister of finance so that funds needed for Voice Over Internet is availed.
“We are surprised we have modern equipment and we are impressed by TelOne and the 75% findings of utilisation shows that people are really interested.” He said.
Honorable Hwende added that they will make sure that they will look at and align legislation which will assist in curbing vandalism.
TelOne has spent about $2 million on repairing and replacing stolen cables.
The entity is in the process of implementing processes of replacing copper cables with fibre.
