Following the announcement by ZBC and Joy Media Incorporated that they have joined hands in bringing back the 24 hour Joy TV channel, social media is full of positive and negative comments regarding the new partnership.
German based arts critic Plot Mhako sparked a heated debate on his Facebook page when he shared news that the once glorious TV station is back.
Plot Mhako said Joy TV must ensure quality and competitive programmes if it is to last in the game.
“When they closed we had a few options so now with DSTV, internet and free to air channels they may need to really offer something new and different for the market.” He said.
Others pointed out that a ZBC partnership will not work because of propaganda associated with the sole broadcaster through its monopoly.
Some have suggested that Joy TV becomes digital and abandon the ZBC analogue system which produces poor quality.
However, eyebrows have been raised by a cross section of viewers who are afraid that Joy TV may end up ditching viewers as in the case of Kwese which shut down recently in a move that left many disappointed.
Joy TV is a brain child of veteran broadcaster and business mogul James Makamba who was in exile for many years before coming back home after the November step down of former president Robert Mugabe.
