The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zimbabwe has been appointed to the Multi stakeholder Coordinating Team of the Southern African Development Community Internet Governance Forum (SAIGF).
This appointment was made during the Southern Africa Internet Governance Forum 2018(SAIGF-18) held in Durban, South Africa.
The Multi-stakeholder Coordinating Team is responsible for organising the regional internet governance forum, which then feeds into the Global Internet Governance Forum.
Speaking exclusively to TechnoMag, “We feel obviously happy by the appointment as this was initiated by the United Nations. This initiative is also for the Government but they have also included the civil organisations.” said Mr Hove the Legal and ICT Policy Officer of MISA Zimbabwe.
This year’s SAIGF theme ran under the theme: Inclusive and Secure Internet. MISA Zimbabwe presented a paper under the topic: Media and Content issues in the digital age.
The appointment comes as validation of MISA Zimbabwe’s contribution to the Internet governance space. MISA Zimbabwe, has for example, been convening Multi-Stakeholder Internet Governance Forums in Zimbabwe since 2015.
MISA Zimbabwe will leverage its appointment to the regional forum to scale up its lobby and advocacy interventions towards democratic Internet governance in Zimbabwe and the Southern African region.
