The minister of ICT and Cyber Security, Hon Supa Mandiwanzira has urged Zimbabwean youths to exercise restraint while they communicate and share their personal photos online, to avoid being victims of the same technology.

Citing the trending video of a youthful couple which saw their explicit video going viral, with rumors of the female counterpart commiting suicide, the minister urged the community members to exercise cautionĀ  on what they share on the social media platform.

“Access to the internet and provision we have already made for the masses is meant to empower you, and be careful to make sure you do not abuse the same facilities, or worse off become victims of revenge porn or social media like the terrence issue”.

He also urged the community to demand quality of service from all telecom service providers, citing should they receive substandard service, Government was ready to assist them.

Addressing Nyanga residents during a Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe, Potraz, consumer awareness campaign, the minister said that Potraz had a mandate to protect and defend consumer rights while mainly ensuring that quality of service is delivered to consumers.


“If you are receiving substandard telephony services, or you are entirely not happy about a specific telecommunication service, you must freely lodge your complain to Potraz, who are empowered tom deal with your complaints.”

Potraz in the last years penalized all the three mobile networks for providing sub standard service, with dropped calls and poor service delivery topping amongst other issues.

The minister also donated laptops to a local Nyanga school, to empower the institution towards their educational needs.

They reported that service provision has since improved since they cracked whip, however urging the consumers to be vigilant and help them, as they should demand quality service for their money.
