POTRAZ Rescues Mzarabani CIC

THE Postal Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) has moved in to rescue the Mzarabani Community Information Centre (CIC), amidst indications that the facility had closed its doors to the public.

Briefing Journalists during a familiarisation visit of the CIC, POTRAZ Director Postal Services Kenneth Dewera said they had to respond swiftly following reports of the facility’s closure to avoid inconveniencing the Mzarabani community.

“After hearing that the CIC had opened and worked briefly before closing, we had to act fast. The complaint of the centre’s closure was brought before us about two weeks ago.

“By last week Friday, we had already put together all the necessary equipment necessary for a fully functional CIC. As we speak, people around here are already busy doing various researches on the internet and they are actually up to date with developments elsewhere,” said Dewera.

POTRAZ commenced the CIC rollout in 2016 in conjunction with the ministry of ICT and Cyber Security

Mzarabani Councillor Norman Chizeya commended the move saying it would connect his community to the rest of the world.

“This program was brought to us in 2016, we thank POTRAZ for bringing ICT close to us. People were happy briefly before network to the centre was cut. We sent our plea on February, 26, but to my surprise, you have already resolved the crisis.

“This shows you are moving in line with the new dispensation where action is the order of the day,” said Chizeya.

Meanwhile, farmers and students in Mzarabani also appreciated the move to restore operations at the CIC saying the centre has become useful in many ways.

Sekuru Stansilus Mugadza a maize and groundnuts farmer said he comes to the centre to research on tips to grow and maintain his crops regularly.
