Econet Cries Foul, Reverses Data Tariffs.

Econet has cried foul and complained that it is the only mobile network operator that has implemented the directive to have a price floor on all its data services and hence it has with immediate reversed to old tariffs.

However Telecel Zimbabwe had already terminated all their data promotions pending review  while NetOne had suspended their 270mb data bundle as well, though they had not discontinued their popular one fusion bundles.

Econet felt that it was the only player which then implemented the new tariffs, while technically it was the last to adjust, but the first to reintroduce new bundles according to the latest directive.

While the regulator has openly admitted that they had been approached  by the  Telecommunications operator under the Telecommunications Operators Association of Zimbabwe (TOAZ) to effect a price floor on data, operators had remained mum on the move.

There has been massive national outcry after Econet introduced their new tariff charging 50mb for a $1, while the minimum stipulated tariff was $1 for 50mb.

A quick check on the Econet data menu by dialing *143# shows that the data bundles are yet to be activated.

Here is the full statement from Econet.
