Government has endorsed Campus Community Foundation’s mentorship program whose aim is to mould the unemployed to disrupters, innovators, and entrepreneurs.
Addressing journalists at the press conference today, Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Minister Patrick Zhuwao said this initiative by the noted that the program has had a massive response from students.
“…I am therefore pleased to be officially presented with an initiative by the Campus Community Foundation which has started a mentorship programme that seeks to unlock the full extent of the innovation and entrepreneurial potential within our tertiary institutions for entreprenuerial development, employment creation and economic growth.“I am advised that since its launch on December 5, as many as 600 students despite the Christmas holidays have already signed up to Campus Community Foundation,” he said.Added the minister, “Im also pleased having been advised that the private sector has come forward to partner with Campus Community Foundation to provide mentorship to the students across various sectors which include banking, finance, entrepreneurship, mining, engineering, marketing, agriculture, information technology among others.”
“What will happen with this program is that we will start with the commencement program which is the stage we are at now where we are calling in applications from students where corporates are also coming in to support these students, we already have some corporates on board but we are looking fore more to capture as many students as we can to benefit from this initiative.
“Then after that we have the matching stage where we are going to have different different students being matched to different corporates from their respective sectors. We are going to have perhaps students from banking being matched to corporates from that sector. So after that matching stage we will have a mentoring committee as well with our different partners and corporates who will be part of the committee.”
She also said there be an initial meeting where mentors and the mentees meet agreeing on methods and activities that will be taking place as they are going to be engaging as mentors and mentees.
