Huawei yesterday inaugurated its 2016 ICT Roadshow at Rainbow Towers in Harare, alongside the council of SADC ICT Minister’s meetings, where they increased their commitment to the development of Zimbabwe ICT, as they reiterated they further commitment to drive technologies through their strategic partners.
Speaking during the SADC ICT ministers meetings, H.E Chinese Ambassador Huang Ping said they were concerned about transferring technologies to the Zimbabweans instead of just offering them solutions, they would want to see them drive various technologies themselves.
“There is a saying called Teach a man how to fish instead of giving him a fish. That is why we think knowledge exchange and skill transfer are so important between the cooperation of our two countries. I am glad to witness the launch the program of this year to see more students get benefits from it.
The Chinese ambassador was speaking before a delegation of Guest of honor composed by four ICT Ministers respectively from South Africa, Swaziland, Nambia and Lesotho hosted by Hon. Minister Supa Mandiwanzira, Zimbabwe Minister of Information Communication Technologies, Postal and Courier Service attend the opening ceremony and witness the kicked off its Seeds for the Future program that Huawei has in partnership with Zimbabwe Ministry of ICTPCS.
Seeds for the Future Programmed, Huawei’s flagship CSR program, has to-date, welcomed over 10,000 students from 150 universities across 54 countries. Embarking on a two-week, hands-on learning experience, students are given the opportunity to work closely with ICT experts in Huawei’s industry-leading research laboratories in China. Establishing a deeper understanding of the latest in digital innovation, products, and solutions, the program is designed to nurture young Zimbabwean talent within the ICT sector.
The Zimbabwe Seeds for the Future Program was commissioned by H.E Presdient Robert. G. Mugabe during his state visit to China when Huawei firstly initiate it in Beijing in Agust 2014. 10 students with ICT major from 5 University were benefited from it last year. At the end of June this year, another 10 students will go to Huawei headquarter in China to gain more ICT skills.

As a responsible corporate citizen in Zimbabwe, he appreciated Huawei has made huge contribution to bridging the digital divide and he wish Huawei continue to do more to promote the bilateral relationship of the two countries.
“I would like to thank Chinese government and China EXIM Bank for providing the facilities to help NetOne,” said Supa Mandiwanzira, Minister of ICTPCS, when he reveals the performance of NetOne after Huawei’s delivery of the 75% of the MBB project so far. There is a report by Potraz showing that the network coverage increased by 45% till now and the subscribers increased by 51% by the end of 2015 compared with the third quarter of 2014.
He also emphasizes that “Nowadays, ICT technologies that enable connectivity are the engines that drive global sustainability. We welcome Huawei to continue to apply more ICT solutions here to enable the development of other industries, like the solutions of Safe City and National Data Center, to support the Zim-Asset. ”
At the inauguration, the students that participated in the 2015 Seeds for the Future program shared their experience in China, and handed over their essays on ICT subjects written during the program in China to the Chinese Ambassador and the Ministers to show their appreciation.
Albert Yang, Managing Director of Huawei Zimbabwe, reiterated Huawei’s commitment of growing together with Zimbabwe: “Huawei has preserved against all odds growing with Zimbabwe for over 18 years and is looking forward to contribute more to the ICT development in Zimbabwe, enriching people`s life through better and faster connections. Both Huawei ICT roadshow and Seeds for the program are in line with our vision to building a better connected Zimbabwe.”
The Huawei 2016 ICT Roadshow will be held in Harare from June 1st to June 3rd，showcasing the most innovative ICT solutions in areas of modernized data center, cloud computing, lamp site, eLTE solution and others.
