Ranga Mberi, a long serving corporate communications manager, has been confirmed to have left the nation’s largest mobile network.
Previously, #MondayBlues column was digging in on Econet’s pathetic Hypocrisy, before we followed up on Potraz boss being pushed out and the internal politicking at Telecel Zimbabwe, before they offered juice cards for salaries.
We followed up on the dismissal of StarFm boss and the sad stroke attack that preceded, then Shingi Munyeza resigning to start the next big thing in Zimbabwe telecoms, before we spoke on how the NewsDay and DailyNews fail to update the good content, we also mantained that One Wallet was smart but Stupid! This was followed up by many Econet and Telecel Employees flocking to Netone and another on ZOL and telone missing the Hotspot moment on their hard copy to the internet.
Sources close to the matter divulged that he was not sacked during the infamous Econet sacking, which sparked dismissal across telcos when they first fired 29 employees, but his was a separate recent one which is slightly over a month old now.
Efforts to get comments from Ranga Mberi were fruitless as he insisted that there was not an issue to talk about.
This we guessed may still mean they could be some negotiations to settle his case hence he was also playing careful, unlike most employees who immediately got their Econet lines terminated, Ranga Mberi is still reachable on his line.
“This is no longer news, he left a long time ago, I’m shocked you are only asking now, but he is not the only one who has left Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, many have left” he said.
Efforts to get an official comment form the Human Resources Manager, Innocent Magaya, were fruitless as his mobile phone went unanswered.
Mr Mboweni, directed us to another executive who is in South Africa for official comment and in depth, who he recently contacted us with more information
Econet Wireless Group Media Advisor Mr Sure Kamhunga however has advised us on the actual position that he was not fired but left the company.
“Reference is made to an article published on your website, which stated that Econet “fired” its communications manager, Mr. Ranga Mberi. We wish to point out that Mr Mberi was not dismissed and his departure from the company was amicable. The reasons for his resignation however remain confidential between the company and Mr Mberi.”
He becomes the 5th Telecoms Spokesman to move from one operator to the other searching greener pastures, Prosper Mutswiri moved from Africom To Powertel, While Rutendo Chabururuka moved from Netone to Liquid Telecom and he was replaced by John Nyashanu who then left Newsday. Robert Gonye Moved from Gtel while Newton moved from Liquid Telecom, both to unknown destinations.
